Groups ask HUD for more to reduce closing costs
Consumer Action joined in comments to the U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The agency has proposed a rule to simplify and improve the process of obtaining mortgages, under the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (RESPA).

Saving homes through Chapter 13 bankruptcy
Consumer Action joined civil rights and consumer organizations in this letter of support for the bipartisan Chabot-Conyers “Emergency Home Ownership and Mortgage Equity Protection Act of 2007,” which would save hundreds of thousands of homes from foreclosure.

FTC complaint against Zillow online appraisal site
On Oct. 26, the National Community Reinvestment Coalition (NCRC) filed a consumer protection complaint to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) alleging Internet financial services and real estate provider Zillow.com is misleading consumers, real estate professionals and financial service providers in on-line home valuations.
