The Consumer Services Guide is searchable directory of resources which can help you with consumer problems and questions. There are multiple editions of the ‘Guide’, some which deal with specific issues such as housing or credit.   • Asian Law Caucus (ALC)
    Non-profit legal organization which offers assistance to low-income consumers. Promote, advances and represents the legal and civil rights of Asian and Pacific Islander communities. ALC provides help throughout the Bay Area. Free or low-cost, depending on income.

  • Council On Aging, Legal Services (COA)

    Legal assistance for seniors 60 years of age and older. Bilingual (Spanish-English).

  • Department of Aging (CDA)
    Call with complaints about nursing homes and residential care facilities. Also engages in advocacy for seniors and the disabled who are in long-term care facilities. Will refer callers to appropriate district offices for further assistance.

  • Inland Fair Housing and Mediation Board (IFHMB)
    The agency was established in 1980 and has been spirited in the fight against discrimination in housing. IFHMB continues to educate the community at large about their rights and responsibilities under fair housing laws.

  • Legal Aid Society of San Diego Inc
    Provides legal services on issues involving juvenile court, criminal court, immigration, housing, Social Security, health, family law and some consumer issues.

  • Legal Aid Society of San Mateo County
    Legal Aid Society of San Mateo County provides free, quality civil legal services to San Mateo County’s low-income residents. Their advocacy has evolved with the times; they fought for civil rights in the 1960s and fair wages for farmworkers in the 1980s.   • Legal Assistance for Seniors
    Call if you are having legal problems with Social Security, SSI, health care (including Medi-Cal, Medicare or nursing home issues), senior or subsidized housing, elderly abuse or incapacity. Help is available to Alameda County residents over 60 years old.

  • Legal Assistance to the Elderly
    Provides assistance on civil matters, including landlord/tenant, to S.F. residents, 60 years or older. Must be S.F. resident 60 years or older. Provides legal services and health insurance counseling for seniors (age 60 or over). Assistance includes help with Medicare, Medi-Cal, Social Security, SSI, tenant problems, physical abuse, financial abuse, residential care and nursing homes.   • Self-Help for the Elderly

  • Sonoma County Adult and Aging Services
    The Adult and Aging Services Division of Sonoma County works with individuals and the community to ensure the safety and well-being of vulnerable adults. Staff provides protective and supportive social services as well as community training and coordination.
