On Aug 15, Consumer Action staff participated in a Housing Summit sponsored by San Francisco Bay Area faith-based groups. The staff manned a resource table as part of our Housing Information Project. The summit was designed to draw awareness to the current housing crisis and help consumers in the faith community make informed choices. The training was held at Faith Fellowship Church in San Leandro, California. The summit attracted a crowd of 75 participants, all with questions and comments about the recent housing market. Summit attendees flocked to exhibit tables and booths to obtain great information and literature on the many ways to keep their homes. The summit included presentations from nonprofit staff and other housing and financial management experts. Presenters disseminated information on money management, loan modification, building and rebuilding good credit, tips on keeping their homes, and foreclosure prevention. The second portion of the event was devoted to economic recovery and self-empowerment. Presenters in these sessions talked about debt management, wealth creation and asset protection. The response was so overwhelmingly positive that event organizers made a pledge to have another event in the near future.
