Chinatown Families Economic Resource Fair

Consumer Action staff provide financial literacy information and educational materials to Chinese immigrant families.

Consumer Action Community Outreach Manager Jamie Woo and Administrative Assistant Kinny Li attended the Chinatown Families Economic Resource Fair in San Francisco on March 15th. Hosted at the Donaldina Cameron House, the fair was a one-stop shop for Chinese immigrant families and Chinatown residents to learn more about asset-building strategies, public benefit eligibility, financial literacy and job training resources.

Fair participants looking at brochuresWith more than 500 people in attendance, the fair was a great opportunity for Consumer Action to display a wide array of multilingual fact sheets, including our popular “Do Not Call” brochure. CA staff also offered expert advice to consumers and responded to individual questions related to financial literacy.

Jamie Woo presentingIn addition, Woo gave an outstanding presentation entitled “How to Protect Yourself Against ID Theft.” Engaging participants with real-life examples and scenarios, Woo shared tips on protecting personal information and taking the proper action steps for those who are victims of identify theft. Participants expressed their deep concerns with regard to this increasing form of fraud and actively participated with stories on how this is currently affecting their families.
