The Maine Housing Counselor Network will host the event at the Knights of Columbus, at 47 High St.

The workshop is based on models used in such high-foreclosure areas as St. Paul, Minn., and Florida. The Maine Housing Counselor Network hopes to replicate this workshop in other counties throughout Maine afflicted with high foreclosure rates.

The economic downturn, rising costs of food and fuel, and troubles in the sub-prime mortgage industry have left many Maine families threatened with foreclosure. York County recorded 110 new foreclosures in the month of May, organizers say, nearly double the total of any other Maine county.

HUD-certified housing counselors, foreclosure attorneys, and loan servicers will be on hand both to speak to homeowners about foreclosure prevention strategies and to meet with homeowners for one-on-one confidential consultations following the presentations.

• Receive an overview of the foreclosure process and learn helpful foreclosure prevention strategies
• Meet for a one-on-one consultation with a housing counselor, loan servicer, or foreclosure attorney on the spot
