Consumer Rights FAQs
Our Consumer Rights FAQs (frequently asked questions) contain questions and answers about some common issues of concern to consumers.
Many consumer laws vary by state—and in many cases state laws provide stronger consumer protections. Because Consumer Action is a national non-profit organization, we usually do not provide information about state laws. (As we are headquartered in California, some of our publications may reference California laws.) Consumer Action encourages you to seek advice and assistance from the appropriate community and governmental agencies in your area. Search our
Consumer Services Guide to find helpful resources in your area.
Note: Use this information as a general guide only. Consult with a local consumer organization for laws specific to your state. Our responses do not constitute legal advice. We recommend visiting the
National Association of Consumer Advocates if you are seeking a consumer attorney.
