New website provides consumer education on insurance

Consumer Action debuts Insurance-Education.org 'sub site'

Consumer Action’s new Insurance Education website (www.insurance-education.org) is a free online clearinghouse for educational materials about the multitude of consumer insurance products and the need for adequate insurance coverage. Consumer Action believes that despite the efforts of many nonprofit organizations and government agencies, there remains a critical need for insurance education across many populations—students, young working adults, low-income people, immigrants, the uneducated and older Americans. “Financially literate consumers are more confident about their money management skills and thereby make more successful personal financial choices,” said Executive Director Ken McEldowney. “Our new insurance website is another valuable resource we offer to help promote financial literacy.” Consumer Action created the new web site using funds from its Insurance Education Project. The site will feature Consumer Action’s award-winning multilingual educational projects targeting consumers with low financial literacy levels and limited English-speaking ability. The Insurance Education Project is also providing training materials and curricula to community-based organizations (CBOs) nationwide.
