Advice for Mobile Home Owners
The National Consumer Law Center created this fact sheet titled "Home on Wheels: Helping Mobile Home Owners Stay Put." Despite the popularity of mobile homes, many mobile home owners have encountered problems with this kind of homeownership.
Mobile homes, or manufactured homes, are popular with Americans because they are usually more affordable than conventional homes. The cost of a mobile home may be up to a third less than a similar home built on site. But home owners may face problems. Common complaints are that the home is defective or installed incorrectly. The manufacturer or dealer may refuse to repair the defect even though the home is under warranty. This publication lists some of the most common problems mobile home owners face.
